Ventura (Chelois x Elvira) Bred at Vineland, Ontario, Canada. An attempt to get a wine grape with the quality of Elvira, but
without it's tendency for cracking and fruit rots. Ventura hangs well with no fruit problems here. The white berries come on rather small, compact clusters. Shoots tend to be upright, making it easy to manage. Reported
to have good cold hardiness, to -20 or -25 F. Wine is supposed to be very crisp and dry. Train it to canes for best crop load, but be careful not to overload the vines. |
